A Six Week Series based on the Apostle Paul’s Letter to the GALATIANS
It is for freedom that Christ set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be bound and burdened again by the yoke of slavery.
Typically, Paul begins his letters with an extended, extravagant affirmation of the people to whom he is writing. But not this time.
He is furious that the Gospel has been distorted by false teaching that turns the Good News of Jesus Christ into a racist and legalistic dogma. This conservative “circumcision faction” has eviscerated the accomplishment of Christ, the central truth of the New Testament, and contradicted the welcome of God extended to excluded Gentiles (all of us non-Jews).
Paul is zealous for the truth of the Gospel and the aggressive expansion of the mission of the nascent church throughout the Roman Empire. He allows for no compromise here and pleads with his readers to remain faithful to the call of Christ that brings a radical freedom into human experience. This liberating invitation is always threatened by those who seek to impose additional conditions and customs upon those responding to God’s gracious appeal in Christ.
Please join us as we study the context of this theologically rich letter and explore the striking implications for own lives, ministries and witness.
